Who we are

Shillig Law, PLLC is an immigration law firm in North Richland Hills, Texas, serving the Dallas and Fort Worth area. This policy covers Shillig Law's website. It does not cover information you give us after we have agreed to represent you — that is governed by our engagement agreement and by the rules of professional conduct, which are stricter than this policy.

What we collect

We collect two kinds of information: what you send us deliberately, and what your browser reports automatically.

• Information you send us: your name, email address, telephone number, preferred language, the subject of your enquiry and whatever you write in the message box on our contact form, or in an email or voicemail.
• Information collected automatically: your IP address, browser type and version, the pages you viewed and the page you arrived from, and the date and time of your visit. This is ordinary web server and analytics data.
• Cookies and similar technologies, where they are used, to keep the site working and to understand in aggregate how it is used.

Why we collect it

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

• To answer your enquiry, and to work out whether we are able to help you.
• To run a conflict check before we can discuss a matter in any detail.
• To operate, secure and improve the website.
• To meet our own legal, regulatory and professional obligations.

An enquiry is not yet a confidential communication

This matters more than anything else on this page. Sending us a message through this website, or emailing or calling us, does not create an attorney-client relationship. Until we have run a conflict check and agreed in writing to act for you, what you send is not protected by the attorney-client privilege.

So please do not send confidential or time-critical details through the website — particularly about a criminal matter or a detention. Tell us enough to make contact, and we will tell you how to send the rest securely. If a matter is urgent, telephone us.

Who else sees it

We use a small number of service providers to run the site and deliver email, and they process information only on our instructions:

• Our website host and content delivery network, which serve the pages you are reading.
• Our transactional email provider, which delivers form submissions to the firm.
• Analytics, where used, to measure site usage in aggregate.

We may also disclose information

• Where the law, a court order or a regulatory obligation requires it.
• Where it is necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
• Where you have asked us to.

How long we keep it

We keep website enquiries for as long as we need them to answer you, to run conflict checks, and to meet our record-keeping obligations. Where an enquiry becomes a matter we act on, the file is retained under the firm's own retention schedule. Server and analytics logs are kept for a shorter period.

Security

This site is served over an encrypted connection and we take reasonable measures to protect the information we hold. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security — which is another reason not to send sensitive details through a web form.

Your rights in Texas

Under the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, Texas residents may ask us to confirm whether we process their personal data and to provide a copy of it, to correct inaccuracies, to delete it, and to opt out of any sale of personal data or of targeted advertising. We do not sell personal data and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

Residents of other states and countries may have comparable rights. Ask us and we will tell you what applies.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Other websites

We link to government resources such as USCIS and to court decisions. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and this one does not apply to them.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top of the page is when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
